My name is Salena Bertram; I'm 14 years old and am going into my Sophomore year at Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colorado. I love to spend time with my family and friends. I also enjoy the outdoors, swimming and taking photos (especially of the sunset). In my spare time, I enjoy shopping, drinking Starbucks and studying. I have two younger brothers and one younger sister. As the oldest of four children, I want to set a good example for my younger siblings. I demonstrate this to them with hard work and determination. I work hard in school and enjoy the challenge of advanced classes. Last year was my second year participating in the AVID program. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination a college prep program designed to help students develop the skills needed to be successful in college. The program places importance on critical thinking, teamwork and organization among other vital skills. This coming year, I am determined to achieve honor roll, play high school volleyball (in the fall) and soccer (in the spring).
Soccer has always been more to me than just a sport; it's a passion. I've enjoyed playing soccer since I could remember. It started in my front yard, then a recreation league, then I advanced to a competitive league. Last year, as a freshman at Centaurus High School, I made the girls JV soccer team! We ended this year with a 9-3 record!
My standard position is to play forward, however last year my JV coach challenged me to play midfield and defense. Not only did I prove to myself and my coaches that I could do it, I proved to myself that I could do anything I set my mind to.
For this endeavor, I am working to raise funds that will allow me to attend a Soccer camp at the University of Wyoming this fall. It will also allow me to get the necessary gear and equipment for the camp and to play for Centaurus High School in the Spring 2018-2019 season.
I am committed to learning advanced skills and techniques that I can use in my soccer career in high school and beyond. By providing a contribution of some kind, you will help me to reach my full potential. Taking my skills and abilities to the next level sometimes requires external support, so being able to gain your help you will enable me to take my soccer career to new heights. Your kind contribution would help me to attend a youth soccer camp at the University of Wyoming this fall. It will also give me the funds to get new equipment and play for Centaurus High School in the Spring 2018-2019 season. I would love the opportunity to meet the coaches at the University of Wyoming, experience dorm life and most importantly learn new and unconventional skills. All in all, you will be helping to make my athletic dream become a reality.
As always, I invite you to follow me in my athletic career! I will announce my game schedule (for volleyball and soccer) as soon as it is published!
