Our Blind Ice Hockey Family

Hello!

We are the St. Louis Blind Hockey Association, offering ice hockey to the visually impaired and totally blind community in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Our mission is to provide introduction and competition through skill development, team work and the love of the game. Although we have only been together since July of 2017, we have grown by leaps and bounds! Because of our rapid growth and our love of the of the game, we have formed a strong bond; on and off the ice!

St. Louis Blind Hockey Association is a Midwest non-profit and affiliate of Spirit of Discovery Park. In January, we were honored to be announced as the 7th NHL Blind Hockey team to be named, in partnership with The St. Louis Blues Hockey Club, L.P. (the "Club"), more commonly known as the St. Louis Blues.

The St. Louis Blues Blind Hockey Club (will) consists of men, women and children of varying ages, who are blind or partially sighted from the St. Louis Metropolitan area. The team currently consists about 20 players.

Blind Hockey is the same exhilarating, fast-paced game that gets spectators out of their seats with only one main difference – all players are legally blind!

Invented in Canada, the sport of Blind Hockey is played by athletes who range from legally blind – approximately 20% vision – to completely blind. The parasport uses an adapted puck that makes noise and is bigger and slower than a traditional puck. Typically, players with more vision play forward, skaters with less vision or no vision play defense and often stay in their own defensive zone. Goalies are completely blind or very low vision and must wear a blindfold.

The St. Louis Blues Blind Hockey Club, a volunteer-based organization, wishes to develop in our sport, welcome additional players and keep with our mission.

Ice time has been secured, twice a month, till the end of May and we are missing much needed funding to pay for additional practice ice. In order to stay competitive with the surrounding NHL blind hockey clubs, like the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks, we are asking for your support.

We realized, through STLBBHC, that we could attain our dreams of playing ice hockey and hope to have the opportunity to continue our dream so that we can beat the Chicago Blackhawks Blind Hockey team, soon. Thank you for your support and contribution.
